KINGSTON: Starting on Monday, the collections and accounts units at Customs House, Newport East, and Montego Bay will extend their opening time by an additional hour from Monday to Friday in order to facilitate the anticipated increased volume of cargo associated with the usual Christmas rush.
Both facilities will also be open on Saturday, December 12, and Saturday, December 19, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. to facilitate customers. In addition, entries that are passed from the night-lodgment system will also be available for pick-up, and staff will be available to address queries arising from these entries on both Saturdays.
“The closing time will, therefore, be 5 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays and 4 p.m. instead of 3 p.m. on Fridays. The public is also reminded that the night-lodgment system will be open until 9:30 p.m. during the week,” Selina Clarke-Graham, senior director of Kingston operations at the Jamaica Customs Agency, told journalists yesterday.
The agency has also undertaken a comprehensive reallocation of staff to ensure that more of them will be available for front line duties during the Yuletide season,” Clarke-Graham disclosed during a media briefing at its Newport East head office.
In keeping with the decision to make it easier for customers to do business, a number of other associated agencies have also extended their opening hours as follows:
• Kingston Wharves Limited will also open on December 12 and 19 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
• Kingston Container Terminal has extended gate-opening hours to 6:30 p.m. as the need arises with effect from Wednesday, December 2, and this will continue until Thursday, December 24.
• Universal Freight Handlers Limited will be open on Saturday, December 12, and 19 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Adolph Levy Brothers Limited will be open on Saturday, December 12, and 19 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
• The Logistics Centre will be open on Saturday, December 19 between the hours of 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• The seaports in Montego Bay will open for additional hours as the need arises.
“With the assistance of our stakeholders from the ports and the Customs Brokers’ Association, we are confident that our clients will be provided with the best customer service,” Clarke Graham declared.
