SPI inflation decreases by 0.19%

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation, measured through the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended December 03, for the combined income group, has decreased by 0.19 per cent to 218.39 points as compared to the previous week’s 218.81 points.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 2.97 per cent as compared to the corresponding week of last year.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 witnessed a decrease of 0.33 percent as it declined from 210.60 points in the previous week to 209.91 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 and 18,001-35,000 decreased by 0.28 percent, 0.25 percent, 0.20 percent and 0.12 percent respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of 09 items registered decrease, while that of 15 items increase with the remaining 29 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included onions, tomatoes, gur, sugar, rice basmati (broken), pulse gram, kerosene oil, potatoes and garlic.

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included LPG cylinder, cigarettes, bananas, chicken (farm), eggs (farm), wheat flour, wheat, pulse moong, soap, pulse masoor, red chilly powder, firewood whole, vegetable ghee and mutton.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice irri-6, bread plain, beef with bone, milk fresh, curd, powdered milk, mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee, salt powder (loose), tea, cooked beef, cooked pulses, tea prepared, long cloth, shirting, law printed, georgette, gents shoes,, ladies shoes, electricity charges, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, Hi Speed Diesel and telephone local call charges.
