Islamabad Customs moves IHC against returning passport to Ayyan

ISLAMABAD: Model Customs Collectorate lodged an appeal in Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the decision of Special Court of Customs, Taxation and Anti-smuggling to release the passport of model Ayyan Ali.

Counsel for customs Farhat Nawaz Lodhi filed the appeal on Saturday, while the hearing in the case is expected on December 12.

The customs has stated in the appeal that Ayyan could flee the country, after getting her passport, besides, adding that passport is key evidence in the case that cannot be released as the trial in case is going to start on December 8.

It was also added that customs could face difficulties while proving that accused model was going to Dubai when she was arrested, if it lost.

After initial hearing of the appeal, the IHC will issue notice to accused model and it is said that Latif Khosa would contest the case from Ayyan’s side.

The customs court had granted a request from Ayyan Ali for the return of her passport, after the submission surety bonds.

The court returned the passport on a conditional basis, and asked Ayyan to appear before the court when summoned.
