LONDON: Google’s Cardboard Camera app will let you take 360 degree VR photos

Either way, Google’s Cardboard Camera makes one thing clear: Google doesn’t want you to forget about VR.

Google’s new Cardboard Camera app is now available in the Google Play store.

Earlier this year during Google I/O, Google officially unveiled the new Photos application that would be finding a home on Android devices. Be sure to move your phone around you in a circle to grab all sorts of angles.

In our tests, the app was extremely easy to use, though it took a few tries to line up the edges of the panoramas perfectly. However, it is a more immersive experience. Near things appear close and far things seem distant, and one can look through to check out the picture in all tracks.

You won’t need the Cardboard VR to snap panoramic images, but yes the output gets better treatment when viewed through Cardboard or other VR. There’s the added benefit of recording sound with the photo, so you can hear everything that was going on when the photo was taken.

You pop your phone into the boxy headset, and once you hold it up to your eyes, you can view the entire scene as if you’re there, looking around and behind you.

It’s created to work with Google Cardboard, Google’s DIY virtual reality headset. But it could become much cooler when you can show it to other people who aren’t there with you and your phone and your Cardboard.
