KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has eventually served show-cause notices on the fabric importers, whose consignments were seized by the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi Region during a raid at Allahwala Market near Lucknow Plaza on 6 September.
According to details, the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has fixed the case for hearing on 12 November.
The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I)-FBR, Karachi was reluctant to take any legal action against the importers due to political interference.
The Directorate of Customs I&I has made the seizure report at the end of the September-2014 and sent it to the adjudication authorities, where the authorities sent the show-cause notice against the alleged parties at the end of the October-2014.
“Political involvement into the case restricts the authorities of Customs Intelligence to act against the importers according with the law and its procedures,” sources added.
The DIT has seized six trucks carrying around Rs 40 million worth fabric smuggled from India, Korea and China.
During the raid a driver, some ASO staffers and Rangers officials were injured after market authorities resorted to firing.
Later on, the Directorate General of Customs I&I gave the impression that a first information report would be lodged against the importers, as the seized fabric consignments were reportedly smuggled through transit trade and the importers did not have legal documents.
Although, the authorities concerned refrain themselves from making a seizure report against the seized smuggled consignments.
