WASHINGTON: ASMedia Technology, an Asustek Computer subsidiary specializing in the design and development of USB 3.0 host and device controller chips, is expected to report record revenues for the fourth quarter of 2015 thanks to robust shipments of USB 3.1 controllers for notebooks, according to a recent Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
As the new Intel Skylake CPU along with the 100-series chipsets (codenamed Sunrise Point) will not come with native USB 3.1 support, USB 3.1 functionality will be added via third party controllers. ASMedia, which has already introduced its USB-IF certified USB 3.1 host controllers, will enjoy robust shipment growth starting the fourth quarter of 2015, the report said.
ASMedia’s shipments of USB 3.1 controllers started to grow in the third quarter boosting the company’s revenues to the second-highest monthly levels in its history, the report indicated. ASMedia is expected to see its fourth-quarter revenues top NT$450 million (US$13.7 million) hitting a record high, the report said.
In response, ASMedia said the company has not provided its sales outlook for the fourth quarter, and advised investors to refer to company announcements through the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) for financial information. ASMedia also declined to comment on speculation regarding customer orders.
ASMedia has reported revenues of NT$432 million for the third quarter of 2015, up 46% sequentially, with net profits surging to NT$92 million from only NT$7 million in the prior quarter. EPS for the third quarter came to NT$1.62. Meanwhile, gross margin climbed 2.8pp on quarter to 47.69%.
