MOSCOW: A delegation of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will soon be visiting Russia in an attempt to search for non-traditional markets to enhance Pakistan’s exports, said TDAP CEO SM Munir.

“Higher exports are imperative for the country’s progress and the TDAP in collaboration with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry is making strenuous efforts to achieve the objective,” he said while speaking to the industrialists and exporters on Monday.

Munir highlighted that during the first year of GSP Plus status, Pakistan’s exports recorded an increase of $2 billion, but international recession contributed a lot to aggravating the situation, which was evident from the decrease in exports of India, China and European nations.

“Pakistan’s basmati rice exports fell 40% while leather goods prices dropped 50-60%,” he said, pointing out that as soon as the GSP Plus status was accorded to Pakistan, India immediately enhanced the export rebate from 3% to 5%.
