ARIZONA: Border Patrol agents found more than $220,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden in a car’s fuel tank at a checkpoint near the Salton Sea Thursday.
At 6 a.m., a 21-year-old man approached the Highway 86 checkpoint driving a 2011 Honda Accord. When a drug-sniffing dog alerted to the vehicle, agents conducted a further search and found 20 vacuum-sealed bundles of methamphetamine hidden in the car’s fuel tank.
The methamphetamine has a combined weight of 22 pounds and is worth about, $220,000, according to agents.
The 21-year-old, a Mexican citizen, the car and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
