AURORA: A Pair of Kane County sheriff’s detectives seized 157 pounds of marijuana and arrested four men in an Aurora parking lot Tuesday.

The men – Delgadillo Alvarez, 42; Jaime Guillen-Hernandez, 63; and Reuben Guillen-Hernandez, 55 – all listed as Mexican residents; and Luis M. Garcia, 53, of Bolingbrook, are all believed to be part of a sale involving marijuana with a street value of $1.4 million. The four are being held in Kane County Jail on $2 million bail.

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives were in a parking lot at Farnsworth Avenue and Interstate 88 around 1 p.m. Tuesday when they spotted what appeared to be a drug transaction in progress. They waited for it to end and then stopped a Jeep driven by Garcia as it left the area. Investigators said they found the marijuana inside Garcia’s vehicle and arrested him. The other three men were also taken into custody after Garcia’s vehicle left the lot.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said the detectives were in the area on an unrelated matter when the suspected deal took place.

“Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good,” Gengler said Thursday.

The four men face single counts of marijuana possession and cannabis trafficking, as well as two counts of manufacturing or delivery of marijuana. The men are scheduled to return to court Dec. 23. Prosecutors have filed paperwork requesting a hearing to determine the source of any money which might be offered to help them post bond. Courts conduct such hearings to make sure no money collected through illegal means is used for bond purposes.
