SINGAPORE: Three men were arrested on Dec 4 for their suspected involvement in importing trademark-infringing products, police and Singapore Customs announced in a news release here the other day.
Singapore Customs detained a consignment on Dec 2, suspected to contain trademark-infringing hard disk drives and anti-virus software product keys. The consignment was detained after brand owners confirmed they were counterfeit, according to the joint media release.
The trio were nabbed after police conducted an operation at the importer’s storage premises at Serangoon North Avenue 4 on Dec 4, where more than 243,000 trademark-infringing goods such as hard disk drives, mobile phones and accessories, memory cards and computer software product keys, worth about S$11 million, were seized by police, according to the release.
Investigations are ongoing.
Singapore Customs and the police said that those found guilty or selling or distributing goods with a false trademark could be fined up to S$100,000, be jailed for up to five years, or both.
