SEREMBAN: The Pahang Narcotics Crimes Investigation Department (NCID) today handed over 783kg of methamphetamine worth RM157.5 million to Kualiti Alam Waste Management Centre for disposal.
Pahang Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief Datuk Jamaludin Kudin said the drugs were the result of a seizure in 2009. “The case was settled in court and the court ordered the disposal of the drugs.
“Today, we are using Kualiti Alam incinerator’s facility, an environment friendly method to dispose of the drugs,” he told reporters at a press conference after handing over the drugs to the waste centre.
Jamaludin said this was the third time NCID used this facility to dispose of the drugs. “The objective was to prevent the store from being disorganised and to house other case seizures that are pending for trial.
“The other reason was to safeguard the health of the officers that are working in the store as the drugs are harmful,” he said. He said police arrested two suspects with a lorry loaded with a tonne of methamphetamine in Rompin back in 2009.
He added from January until November this year, NCID Pahang had busted various syndicates and seized drugs valued at RM22.7 million. Present were Pahang NCID deputy chief Deputy Superintendent Norosid Mamat and Negri Sembilan NCID chief Superintendent Ayub Salim.
Meanwhile, Kualiti Alam chief executive officer Khalid Bahsoon said narcotics was a potentially dangerous waste that contained hazardous materials.
