LAHORE: Toufeeq Butt, a contractor of Lahore, is on Judicial remand in a case of gold and currency smuggling from Pakistan to a Gulf state.
After completion of his 14-day judicial remand, he will be produced before the court by Customs authorities on Monday next where further judicial custody is expected.
According to details, Toufeeq Butt was on pre-arrest bail by the Lahore High court (LHC) in the gold smuggling case in which his alleged career Abdul Basit is already in jail.
Bail of Toufeeq Butt was canceled by the LHC and he was booked by the customs authorities. He was brought to the court where Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan, special judge, approved his physical remand and handed him over to the Customs authorities for further investigation. After physical remand for two times, he was sent to jail on judicial remand.
Three other persons who were involved in this scam were also taken into custody.
It is pertinent to mention here, that his colleague Abdul Basit was arrested by Customs authorities deployed at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore when he was attempting to smuggle 10 kilograms gold. The market value of gold is Rs 90 million.
