India’s excise seizes 1,640kg ganja worth Rs. 10.6 million

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Prohibition and Excise Department seized about 1,640 kgs of dry ganja in a surprise check at Narsipatnam, and arrested two persons who were trying to smuggle the contraband in a van, on Monday.

The value of the seized ganja is estimated to be over Rs. 1.6 crore in the open market at Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata.

The arrested were M. Venkat Rao (33) of Chintapalle mandal and Pangi Mugri (22) of Hukumpeta mandal.

According to Excise Inspector of Narsipatnam D.V.G. Raju, the duo loaded about 41 bags, each weighing about 40 kgs in the van and placed gunny bags filled with potatoes on top of them.
