Pilferage of ISAF cargo: Judge Faiz Rasool dismisses bail pleas of two suspects

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Wednesday dismissed the bail pleas of two suspects in a case pertaining to the pilferage of ISAF cargo.

Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi pronounced his verdict after hearing arguments from defense and prosecution sides.  Suspect Muhammad Faraz, proprietor of M/s Saryal Cargo Channel and Customs Clearing Agency and Mujahid, the driver of a vehicle, had moved the bail applications for their release.

According to the details of the case, M/s Ports Connection (Pvt) Ltd, bonded carrier and M/s Saryal Cargo Channel and Customs Clearing Agency were found to be involved in the illegal and unauthorized pilferage of various consignments of ISAF meant for re-exportation from Mazar Sharif, Afghanistan to ISAF Germany through Customs Station Torkham, Custom House, Peshawar via Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, Karachi, Pakistan.

According to the export documents, the containers were declared to contain batteries filled with acid and lamps. During examination at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, instead of declared goods, the containers were found to contain a huge quantity of wooden pallets, sand bags, concrete blocks and 01 box used tube lights were recovered from eight containers, whereas remaining nine containers were found as per declarations in the relevant GDs.
