NEW YORK: Apple has disclosed that 56% of iPads, iPhones and iPods are using iOS 8, a steady increase compared to the numbers revealed last month.

According to official stats, 40% of users have stuck with iOS 7. Similarly, due to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity problems high number is likely down to iOS 8 in the weeks after launch.

Last month, Apple said 52% of users had switched to iOS 8, the first time the operating system had been installed on more than half of compatible devices.

Adoption rates have proved slower in 2014, despite iOS 8 being an iterative update compared to iOS 7, which offered a complete visual overhaul of the system.

iOS 8 is apparently due a further upgrade before Christmas, with developers currently testing iOS 8.1.1. This version is said to address so–called boot loop issues, which have affected some users of 128GB iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices.

Apple is said to be readying iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 to coincide with the release of the Apple Watch and iPad Pro respectively. Both new products are due in early 2015.
