Sialkot exporters should explore Korean, world markets: Korean envoy

SIALKOT: The ambassador of Korea in Islamabad, Dr Song Jong-Hwan, has asked the Sialkot exporters to explore and capture untapped international trade markets as well as of Korea. He stated this while addressing an important meeting of Sialkot business community held at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

He said that there is a need to make business-to-business contacts between the stakeholders of the two countries, pledging to make all out efforts to boost mutual trade and remove all the hurdles in this regard. He said that the time was ripe to boost private sectors of Pakistan and Korea.

Acting SCCI President Muhammad Sarfraz Butt and Korean embassy officials Park Bongsu , Na Minhong, SCCI’s Research and Development Officers (RDOs) Umair Nisar, Mehmooda Nadeem, Atqa Arshad  , PRO Tajjamal Hussain, Mian Mohsin Gull and the others  were also present on this occasion.

The Korean ambassador said that both Pakistan and Korea should take full advantage of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and increase trade volume between the two countries.

He stressed upon the need of further strengthening the mutual trade ties and bilateral trade between Pakistan and Korea, saying that the Korea was much keen to enhance mutual trade volume in favour of Pakistan. He said that the Pakistan was the trust-worthy economy partner of Korea due to which various Korean companies were keenly interested to bring maximum investment in Pakistan especially in establishing hydel power generation projects energy and technology up gradation sectors.

Korean ambassador Dr. Song Jong-Hwan revealed that there were bright opportunities to set up several joint ventures between Sialkot and Korea in different trade fields, saying that the Sialkot exporters should come forward and explore and capture the Korean international trade markets by exporting their diversified traditional and non-traditional export products to Korea. He also highly hailed the unique export culture of Sialkot.

On this occasion, acting president Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Muhammad Sarfraz Butt said that Pakistan and Korea have most friendly and cooperative relations since the two countries established diplomatic relationship.

He said that many Korean companies are taking advantage of the attractive investment and commercial opportunities and have undertaken business activities including infrastructure development projects in Pakistan.

Muhammad Sarfraz Butt narrated that the both Pakistan and South Korea have always enjoyed cordial relations based on mutual trust and confidence in each other’s expertise. He said that the potential is much more requiring of concerted efforts from both sides.

For improving bilateral trade, he recommended exchange of trade delegations and one to one meetings of business counterparts from both nations.

He said that in order to enhance bilateral trade, it is essential that private sectors of both the countries should come forward and interact more frequently to realize the true potential.

He welcomed the news that South Korean importers are keen to make Pakistan a hub of raw material supplies for their companies by importing copper, minerals, fruits, cotton, yarn and textile clothing. Indeed Pakistan’s rich natural resources and good quality manpower, if combined with Korea’s advanced technical know-how, technological advancements and its experience in the economic developments will bring forth good results for expanding our substantial cooperative relations in every sector, he revealed.
