MOSCOW: Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed to ban import of 70-80% of light industrial goods from Turkey, Deputy Minister Viktor Evtukhov told TASS on Tuesday. “70-80% of Turkish import of light industrial [goods] is what we can easily replace, it’s not a very big [volume] of import – €1.1 bln as it [accounts for] 6% of total imports,” he said, adding that this also creates additional advantages for local producers.
“We’ve studied [the issue] with big producers and industry associations. We’ve also had several meetings, discussions, which resulted in such an offer,” the deputy minister said. According to Evtukhov, the ministry submitted respective proposals to restrict 70-80% of import of Turkish light industrial goods to Russia regarding separate items to the Economic Development Ministry.
As TASS reported earlier the Russian government is working on the second round of restrictive measures against Turkey, which outlines a list of items of works (services) banned within the territory of the Russian Federation for organization under the Turkish jurisdiction.
The issue is about import of construction services, tourism services, hotel-type services as well as woodworking industry and training of Russian companies’ civilian personnel in Turkey. On November 30, the Russian government imposed an immediate ban on supplies of a range of food products from Turkey, suspended several governmental cooperation programs and limited employment of Turkish nationals within the Russian Federation.
