LAHORE: Customs officials had arrested Ayyan Ali on March 14 from Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad and had recovered $500,000 from her luggage.

An appellate bench comprising Justice Abdul Sami Khan of the Lahore High Court has summoned record of the trial court on petition of model Ayyan Ali seeking acquittal in money laundering case.

The Customs Court also sought a reply from the Customs Department on the petition of the accused model until January 19.

Accused counsel Sardar Latif Khosa had filed the appeal against November 6 order of the Rawalpindi Customs Court that dismissed her acquittal application. The counsel stated that Customs Intelligence Department had arrested Ayyan Ali in a fabricated case of money laundering and kept her in for four months but failed to establish the charges.

He said that the trial court framed charges against accused in  haste and without deciding a pending application against the prosecution. He claimed that the accused was not provided with the necessary documents before the indictment, which amounted to unfair treatment.
