Excise narcotics cell registers 58 cases against drug peddlers

LAHORE: The narcotics cell of the Excise and Taxation Department has registered 58 cases against drug sellers and manufacturers during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2015-16.

According to Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Lateef Anjum, the excise teams, on the directions of Director General Akram Ashraf Gondal, raided different areas and arrested accused person involved in selling poisonous alcohol.

The teams of narcotics cell conducted raids in different areas including Sabzazar, Badami Bagh, Shahdara, Bilal Gunj and Ravi Road and remained successful in arresting almost 35 suspects, besides recovering hundreds of liquor bottles.

Following special directions of Excise DG, the monitoring of hotels has been tightened to stop the sale of low quality and chemical mixed alcohol. Now, the DG has directed the officials to keep keen eye on the eve of new year to stop the losses of human lives.

It is pertinent to mention here that every year, a number of people die in the city due to the use of low quality alcohol.
