LAHORE: The import of Indian banana has been increased through Land Freight Unit Wagah since the last three months.

According to sources, the demand for the Indian bananas has also increased in local market, especially in Lahore. Increase in import is due to low crop of Pakistan because of deficiency of water in Hyderarbad and other areas of Sindh which are rich for cultivation of bananas. During the month of December, Pakistan imported two tons of fruit average per day.

Sources told Customs Today that Pakistan is also importing cotton from India and its demand is increasing day by day. Officials from Land Freight Unit Wagah informed Customs Today that import of Indian cotton has been increased since the last one month. Now it has reached up to 25 trucks per day.

Meanwhile, total trade volume between two neighboring countries has slowed down due to decrease in import and export of vegetables and fruits through Wagah trade rout. Export of onion from Pakistan to India has also decreased because supply of Indian onion has increased in Indian markets.
