ISLAMABAD: Deputy collector Kokab Farooq while hearing a case No 24/2014 about smuggled spare parts of three Suzuki Pick Ups issued ONO   190/2014 and  gave his decision to seize them.

He also ordered truck owners on which spare parts were loaded to deposit 20 percent amount out of total value of the truck and get the trucks released. In his decision, he wrote that an attempt had been made to import old and used vehicles in spare parts to dodge customs authorities.

This case was reported by Customs Intelligence and Investigation who in their decision wrote that the respondent in his written reply had claimed ownership of spare parts and had said that he had purchased the parts from Goga Butt importer from Lahore but later in adjudication proceedings, he changed his statement and said he was an employee of Akbar and Co so that he can escape legal proceedings but he could not produce even a single document in his favour. On occasion of detention, he presented AZ and  Co documents which were found irrelevant because seized spare parts were that of Suzuki Pick while AZ &  CO only deals with  used pare parts of Toyota, Mazda and petrol engine. He said that seized spareparts were in fact dismantled vehicles which had chase numbers and it was a straight case of smuggling.
