Traders protest against anti-encroachment drive in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The local traders of Raja Bazar have protested and resisted the anti-encroachment operation launched by the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA).

When the TMA staffers reached Raja Bazar and started removing encroachments, the traders in large number gathered and put up resistance. They also burned tyres and chanted slogans against the TMA officials.

They alleged that the TMA officials are minting money on encroachments operation and destroying their businesses. Due to the traders protest, traffic was disrupted at Committee Bazar and Raja Bazar. The traders, later, dispersed peacefully.

Talking to APP, TMA Administrator Imran Qurashi said that the operation would continue till complete removal of encroachments from the city areas. He advised the shopkeepers to voluntarily remove encroachments or else their goods displayed on encroached places would be confiscated and put to auction.
