UK wheat exports fall in November, still outstrip imports

LONDON: UK wheat exports slowed in November but still outstripped imports for the second consecutive month, customs data showed.

Britain exported 137,389 tonnes of wheat in November, down from 195,324 tonnes the previous month.

Wheat imports in November fell to 82,404 tonnes, the lowest monthly total so far this season.

Cumulative wheat exports for the 2015/16 season (July/June) climbed to 655,383 tonnes but remained below imports for the season to date, which totalled 659,910 tonnes.

Spain remained the largest customer for UK wheat, taking 60,440 tonnes for a cumulative total this season of 241,969 tonnes, down slightly from 252,547 tonnes in the same period a year earlier.

Key suppliers of wheat to Britain during November included Finland (26,512 tonnes) and Germany (20,745 tonnes).
