Taiwan stainless steel imports, exports rise in Dec

TAIPEI: The most recent statistics released by the Taiwan Customs authorities indicate that the country’s imports and exports of stainless steel products increased significantly during the month of December last year.

The country’s stainless steel products import totaled 90,559 tons during Dec ’15. This is significantly higher by 18% when matched with the prior month imports. The Taiwanese stainless steel products import had totaled 76,745 tons during November 2014.

The key product imported during the month was stainless steel coil. The imports of stainless steel coils totaled 84,886 tons, constituting nearly 94% of stainless steel products import during the month.

Among coils, hot-rolled stainless steel coil imports totaled 72,888 tons, accounting for bulk of the stainless steel coil imports. The imports of stainless steel hot-rolled coils rose by 16% when compared with the previous year.

The hot-rolled coil imports by the country had totaled 62,834 tons during December 2014. Meantime, stainless steel cold-rolled coil imports totaled 11,978 tons, accounting for over 14% of the total stainless steel coil imports by the country during the month. The cold-rolled stainless steel products import rose significantly by 31% over the previous month.

The export of stainless steel coils by Taiwan totaled 75,155 tons during December last year, rising considerably by nearly 14% when compared with the previous month. Among them, hot-rolled stainless steel coil exports accounted for 13,084 tons, whereas the balance 62,701 tons were cold-rolled stainless steel coils.

The export of hot-rolled stainless steel coils were up marginally by 2% over the previous year. Exports of cold-rolled stainless steel coils jumped higher by 21% when compared with a month ago.
