KARACHI: The Customs Appellate Tribunal has announced the decision in favour of Huawei Company in a tax evasion case made by Pakistan Customs for evading million of rupees taxes on the import of machinery for installing 4G setup.

As per details, the company imported machinery for the setup and when it was grounded at the port for clearance, the customs demanded duty/taxes on the actual cost of the machinery but the company refused to pay. Later, a case was made against it that has now been decided in Huawei’s favour by the tribunal.

The Huawei imported machinery worth Rs 35 million that was sold to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited with the discount of 99 percent. It offered to pay tax on the cost on which it has given machinery to the PTCL.

But the customs wants to get the taxes on the actual price and has decided to move the higher courts against the decision of the tribunal.

Sources said that Huawei can sale the equipments and machinery only to the PTCL under the agreement but it has sold the machinery worth Rs 55 billion to other mobile network companies by violating the agreement.
