Ten pounds of marijuana seized in traffic stop

LORAIN: Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a 1998 Chevy Blazer, with Pennsylvania registration, for a speed violation on Interstate 80 eastbound, near milepost 133, in Lorain County at 3:41 p.m. here the other day.

Criminal indicators were observed and a Patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed 10 vacuum sealed bags of marijuana, weighing approximately 10 pounds, worth approximately $25,000.

The driver, Larry J. Skuse, 47, of Houston, Pa., was incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana, and trafficking in drugs, both third-degree felonies.

It was the second significant marijuana bust in recent days for troopers.

Troopers stopped a 2004 Ford Explorer, with Michigan registration, for speed and obstructed plate violations on Interstate 70 westbound, near milepost 70 in Madison County at 10:46 a.m. on Jan. 11.

During interaction with the driver, troopers observed in plain view a small amount of marijuana in the center console. A probable cause search revealed six pounds of marijuana, worth $30,000 in the vehicle.

The driver, Aubrey Barned, 26, of Romulus, Mich., was incarcerated in the Multi-County Jail and charge with possession and trafficking in marijuana, both third-degree felonies.
