ISLAMABAD: Federal Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has revealed that the government is charging Rs24.31 per litre tax on petrol and Rs39.25 per litre tax on diesel as the last month, the govt got petrol at Rs44.34 per litre and diesel at Rs39.38 per litre.
He disclosed this in a written reply to the National Assembly. The minister continued that the government is presently charging Rs1.31 custom duty, Rs9.77 petroleum levy and Rs13.23 GST on petrol, while, the government is charging Rs3.97 custom duty Rs7.99 petroleum levy, and Rs27.29 general sales tax on diesel.
The minister said monthly average consumption of petrol is 516,700 metric tons while 662,400 metric tons diesel is consumed in one month. Abbasi said due to reduction in international prices, the government also reduced taxes on the commodity, therefore the benefit of reduction is partly passed on to consumers as no change in prices is made.
