KARACHI: In a bid to avoid electricity theft, the K-Electric has installed aerial-bundle cables (anti-theft cables) in Baldia’s Gulshan-e-Mazdoor, the areas which was previously infested with illegal electricity connections.
According to a KE press statement, the KE successfully installed 230 poles, 11 PMTs and around 1,800 new digital meters in Gulshan-e-Mazdoor for these residents. “The remaining residents are applying for new connections and K-Electric is catering to the needs and further installations of digital meters are under way.”
K-Electric’s spokesperson was present on site and said that this would eventually benefit the consumers residing in this area.
The fault/tripping ratio would substantially decrease and the voltage issues would cease to exist. He added that at first these residents showed resistance, but after the first two successful phases of installation, it was the same residents who cooperated and welcomed K-Electric’s move as they saw positive results.
On Wednesday, a KE statement had said that over 3,000 illegal electricity connections were cut off during an ongoing operation launched to purge the metropolis of electricity thieves and defaulters.
The operation was carried out in areas including Orangi Town, Korangi, Lyari, Johar, SITE, Gadap Town, Clifton, Malir, Landhi and Bin Qasim Town.
