146 Railways employees punished for misconduct

ISLAMABAD: With the aim to improve performance of the public entity, Pakistan Railways has taken disciplinary action against 199 employees and punished 146 others.

“A total of 199 employees were taken up under the Efficiency and Disciplinary Rules, out of which 146 cases have been decided and punishments were awarded while remaining 53 inquiries are in process,” official sources in the Ministry of Railways told APP.

They said a well-organised system of accountability was in place in Pakistan Railways through an independent cell called the Vigilance Cell to identify and curb the corrupt elements and practices.

The cell was working directly under the control of Ministry of Railway and is mandated to identify and investigate any corrupt elements or practices in the organization, he informed the upper house of parliament, the sources added.

Regarding security of the railway tracks, they said that provincial governments and law enforcement agencies thoroughly check the track in vulnerable areas to make it more secure. Under phase-I of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, the sources also informed that a new track will be laid down to Landi Kotal.
