Director of Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills moves Customs Court for pre-arrest bail

LAHORE: Mian Waqas Riaz, a director of Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills, has approached the Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling for pre-arrest bail in a tax evasion case. Hearing of the bail application is scheduled for February 4.

Earlier, Hafiz Irfan Butt, another director of Haseeb Waqar Sugar Mills, obtained pre-arrest bail. His bail was cancelled by the Special Federal Court, but he approached the Lahore High Court and got his bail.

Earlier in September 2015, the Federal Board of Revenue started action against the owners and directors of Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills and raided their Model Town residence to arrest them but no one was traced.

Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills is involved in non-payment of duty on imported machinery.

Meanwhile, the Special Federal Court of Customs, Taxation and Anti-Smuggling had issued arrest warrants for Haseeb Waqas and other directors of Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills.

Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills is allegedly involved in evasion of excise duty and the FBR has registered a case against the directors.
