WASHINGTON: Uganda inflation has eased to 7.6% year-on-year in January from a revised 8.4% in December. This is attributed to deceleration in food inflation.

According to data released by Uganda’s Bureau of Statistics, annual food inflation slowed to 12.7 percent in January, from 13.8 percent in December. Additionally, core inflation which excludes food, fuel, electricity and metered water decreased to 7.1 percent in January from 7.6 percent in December, the bureau of statistics added.

It also takes into account additional measurement centres and up to 370 products are measured as opposed to 276 products in the previous series. According to the statistics office, inflation rate for January going forward, will be released based on the new series.
