FBR likely to release report on gold smuggling within a week

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) would release a report on a high profile case of gold smuggling on fake E-forms within a week, it is learnt here.

Sources said that FBR Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan and Customs Member Nasir Masroor Ahmed have directed the authorities concerned to put extra efforts in order to finalise the report so legal actions could be taken against the accused persons.

It is pertinent to mention here that the FBR-Headquarters has already released an interim report on gold smuggling scam, few months ago.

It may also be mentioned here that various departments of Pakistan Customs, including Model Customs Collectorate Exports, Port Qasim (Exports) and the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs have already conducted investigation into the case during the year2014-15.

As per the investigations, it was transpired that billions of rupees gold was exported to different countries on fake E-form in hundreds of numbers.

The sources informed that the influential personalities were behind the smuggling of huge quantity of gold, adding that those elements are using their full influence in order to stop the investigation. However; the FBR top authorities have decided to finalise all aspects of the report and make it public.

They further informed this scribe that the FBR authorities have already taken the Finance Ministry and Ministry of Commerce into confidence before releasing the report on gold smuggling scam.
