PESHAWAR: Following successful dialog between representatives of clearing agents and custom officials, the Customs Clearing Agents Association agreed to end their protest and resumed their clearing activities.
Chief Executive of the Torkham Clearing Agents Association, Nasir Khan Shinwari, along with association cabinet members, tribal elders held an emergency meeting with additional collector, Samad Khan, at Khyber House, Peshawar. Political agent, Khyber agency, Shahab Ali Shah and other political administration officials were also present on the occasion.
Sharing details, Naisr Khan Shinwari said that it was decided that both Torkham and Jamrud clearing stations would start their work, however, choice would be granted to the traders and businessmen to clear the exporting commodities either in Jamrud or Torkham custom clearing houses. They said that the National Logistic Cell (NLC) officials at Jamrud would be restricted not to forcibly enter the Afghanistan bound loaded trucks in Jamrud dry post for custom clearance purposes.
It would be binding on the NLC to take into confidence the clearing agents and the tribal elders before any change in setting procedure would necessary, they remarked.
Earlier, the association representatives apprised the officials of the grievances being faced by them in case of shifting of clearing business to Jamrud and persuaded the custom officials to review the decision.
