Appellate Tribunal reserves judgement on seizure of 6,875 mobiles, accessories

ISLAMABAD: A division bench of Customs Appellate Tribunal has reserved its judgment on a petition filed by Customs Department in order to defend seizure of 6875 smuggled mobile items.
Customs Appellate Tribunal, Islamabad Bench-II comprising of Chairman Ghulam Murtaza Bhatti and Member Technical, M Nazim Saleem reserved the case claiming duty evasion of Rs 1.723 million on the said banned mobile items which were confiscated by officers of customs dry port located in Islamabad.
Deputy collector customs dry port, Islamabad had filed the petition challenging departmental decision before the tribunal. The case was filed against M/s Euro Duty Free Shop Limited.
Advocate Dr Iqbal represented department (appellant) in the tribunal while Advocate Sikandar Qazi argued from respondent.
Tribunal’s division bench headed by the chairman had around 5 hearings of the case filed in 2015. The decision of the case underwent undue delay due to shuffling in composition of the division bench in the year 2015.
