Faisalabad ASO seizes 420kg of cumin seeds

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has confiscated 420 kilogram of foreign origin cumin seeds (zeera) worth Rs 168,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 13,460.

The ASO has seized zeera under Section 16,18 of the Customs Act, 1969 and Section 3 of Sales Tax Act, 1990 read with Section 3(1)3 of Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156 (1) 90 of the customs act.

As per details, following the instructions of Faisalabad Customs Collector Chaudhary Zulafqar Ali, an ASO team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Javed Mehmood, Deputy Superintendent Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Masood Saeed Chohan, Inspector Abdul Jabbar, Sepoy Khalid Dogar Zulifqar Ali and others raided the M/s Kohistan Daewoo Cargo near Railway Station Chowk, Faisalabad and recovered the Indian origin zeera.

The team asked the manager of cargo service named Muhammad Rizwan for producing the documents showing the legal import the item but he could not the same on which the customs officials confiscated the shipment under customs laws.
