Customs Court to announce verdict of Rs 20 million currency smuggling scam on February 18

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling concluded the hearing of a case pertaining to the smuggling of Rs 20 million. The court will announce its verdict on February 18.

According to details, officials of the Customs Preventive foiled a bid to smuggle Rs 20 million to Dubai and arrested a lady smuggler, Rahat Shehzadi, in 2013. Shehzadi was arrested at Allama Iqbal International Airport while trying to smuggle foreign and local currency via a private airline. The Customs officials recovered US dollars, euros and Pakistani rupees worth Rs 20 million .

Now the Customs investigation and prosecution has completed interim challan against the suspect which was submitted before the court. On Thursday, the Customs Court completed all proceedings after listening arguments from both sides. The Customs Court has also recorded the statements of witnesses and completed the judicial trial of the suspect.

Now the case has adjourned to February 18 for announcement of the verdict against the accused Rahat Shehzadi.
