ISLAMABAD: A senior official of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revealed that over 4,000 air-conditioners and electronic goods worth Rs357 million have been smuggled through Afghan Transit Trade.

The official of the Board’s intelligence wing  disclosed this before the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, which was presided over by Nasreen Jalil. Earlier, a report of confiscation of large consignments of mobile phones was surfacing in the media.

The official further said that the smugglers were using a leading courier company for smuggling, adding that the confiscated goods were kept in the godowns of that courier company, from where these were taken to various markets. The FBR’s intelligence wing had arrested the owner and top officials of the Afghan courier company from Islamabad and Lahore, he added.

The official said the examination of the company’s computer record showed more stocks at its Lahore godown which was also raided and equipment taken into custody.
