FAISALABAD: The officials of the Excise and Taxation Department have recovered five kilograms opium during a crackdown.
Sources told Customs Today that Excise Assistant Rana Ahmed Hassan received information about smuggling of opium after which he formed a team comprising Muhammad Haroon (inspector) and Muhammad Gulzar (sepoy).
The excise team intercepted a rickshaw near Ghulam Mohammadabad and seized imported 150 packets of imported opium. The estimated value of smuggled opium is worth Rs 75,000.
The Excise team also arrested a suspect identified as Rana Ahmed Hassan on the spot and started investigations.
