NEW DELHI: India’s natural rubber imports in January jumped nearly 21 percent from a year ago to 35,174 tonnes as local production fell, the state-run Rubber Board said on Friday.
The south Asian country’s output in the month fell 3.4 percent from a year ago to 56,000 tonnes, the Board said in a statement.
In January, local natural rubber prices plunged to the lowest level in 6-1/2 years, prompting farmers to reduce tapping, dealers said. India imports natural rubber from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
