“Our strategy positions Omantel as the digital partner of choice, and the increased levels of collaboration with Ericsson signals our accelerated approach toward network investment, enhancement and upgrades across the Sultanate, both for retail consumers and corporate clients. We aim to be the nation’s digital partner of choice, helping to bridge the digital divide across all sectors of society,” he added.

“Delivering the highest quality to our customers when using our services and support is at the heart of our operation,” said Rafiah Ibrahim, President, Ericsson Region Middle East and Africa.

“We are living in a dynamic and diverse environment where operators’ services are inherent to subscribers’ lifestyles. Today’s partnership with Omantel will ensure improved customers’ satisfaction for their subscribers by delivering enriched day to day communications,” he added.

Under the terms of the MOU, Omantel and Ericsson will form joint teams to collaborate on four key areas of network improvement, focusing on: deployment of intelligent network upgrades and enhancements, development of innovative fixed and mobile products and services, expansion of Omantel’s product portfolio as well as joint evaluation of potential areas for future collaboration.

Commenting on the importance of the MOU, Samy Ahmed Al Ghassany, Chief Operating Officer of Omantel noted, “We have previously partnered with Ericsson in Oman to invest in nationwide network capabilities. This relationship has been a real factor behind the expansion and improvement of network coverage levels throughout the Sultanate.”

“We believe that through mobility and connectivity services, our society can be transformed. The MOU with Ericsson represents a further step in the realisation of our vision for Oman, to become a truly networked society, where every person and every industry is empowered to reach their full potential,” he added.

Ericsson is a world leader in the rapidly changing environment of communications technology, with some 40 per cent of all global mobile traffic running through Ericsson supplied networks. With more than 37,000 granted patents, Ericsson also has one of the industry’s strongest intellectual property rights portfolios.

Thomas Pittschieler, Transformation Executive Officer for Omantel said, “This is the first of several high profile agreements, being finalised in the near future. In order for us to achieve our strategic goals, we are committed to innovate by enhancing infrastructure and pioneering technologies that increase our network coverage and capabilities. This partnership with Ericsson allows us to boost our network, catering to the ever-increasing mobile and data requirements of our customers.”

Investing in the future of the nation, Omantel connects even the most remote communities of the Sultanate to each other and the world. Omantel is the Sultanate’s first and leading integrated telecommunications services provider, enabling the digital society to flourish, allowing new ways of doing business and delivering a world of information, news and entertainment.

Today, Omantel boldly innovates to deliver the highest levels of customer satisfaction, the broadest and most reliable nationwide network, while investing for Oman’s future development.
