DEL RIO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Del Rio International Bridge recently discovered more $200,000 worth of suspected narcotics hidden in a vehicle coming from Mexico.CBP officers discovered a non-factory compartment on the underside of the engine.
“We are committed to keeping our communities secure,” said Port Director Alberto D. Perez, Del Rio Port of Entry. “This seizure is yet another example of the great work and dedication of our frontline CBP officers.”
On Feb. 18, CBP officers, working at the Del Rio Port of Entry, encountered a 1998 Jeep Cherokee as it arrived in the United States from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico. Upon inspection, CBP officers discovered a non-factory compartment on the underside of the engine. Officers seized 10 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, and a half-pound of marijuana, with a combined value of $203,810.
The driver, a 45-year-old resident of Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.
CBP’s Del Rio Port of Entry is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
