Rs 30b out of Rs 120b released for water, power projects in 2 quarters

ISLAMABAD: The federal government released only 25 per cent of total allocated amount for water and power projects in two quarters of ongoing fiscal year.

This was revealed during the meeting of National Assembly’s standing committee on water and power, which met here under the chairmanship of MNA Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari. The committee was told that an amount of Rs120 billion for 62 projects was proposed but only Rs 30 billion funds were released.

The Standing Committee was briefly apprised about the budgetary proposals relating to Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the next financial year 2016-17. The committee endorsed all the budgetary proposals of department/DISCOs and directed to complete their on-going projects on top priority basis.

The committee was informed that Rs 161 billion have also been demanded for 74 projects for the current financial year 2016-17. The committee also decided to invite ministers and secretaries of Finance and Planning, Development & Reforms in the next meeting for allocation of proposed funds of the Ministry.
