Hakimi, World Bank director talk economic reform agenda

KABUL: Minister of Finance Eklil Hakimi and Worldinfo-icon Bank Country Director Bob Sum have conferred on prioritisation of projects, budget execution and revenue collection.

During his visit to Istanbul, Hakimi led a delegation of Ministry of Finance and Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Bank officials at the meeting with the IMF mission team on the economic reform agenda.

A statement from the ministry said that issues related to national printing companies, IMF mission and the country partnership framework were discussed at the Feb. 23 meeting.

Hakimi informed the World Bank director about his meeting with some cabinet ministers on budget execution and project implementation.

“Additionally, the minister told the World Bank director about the government’s preparations for the Brussels conference, which will be held later this year,” a statement from the ministry said.

Apart from discussing the economic reform agenda, Afghan authorities negotiated a nine-month Staff Monitored Program (SMP) with the IMF in early 2015.

The first review of SMP was completed in late October that assessed benchmarks for the end of June. The second and final review was also done.
