Quetta Customs seizes Iranian tiles worth Rs 1.2m

KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Quetta, has started crackdown against smuggling and impounded a truck which was carrying Iranian tiles. The estimated value of the seized tiles is Rs 1.2 million.

Sources told Customs Today that the Customs authorities raided near Turbat Road and seized a truck which was loaded with smuggled Iranian tiles. The authorities arrested two suspects and registered a case against them. The suspects were allegedly involved in transporting the smuggled tiles.

It is pertinent to mention here that 15 to 20 containers loaded with Iranian tiles are being smuggled into the country through Turbat and Chaman border, causing huge revenue loss for the national exchequer.

Sources said that the Directorate of Customs Valuation had fixed value for tile imports in previous year but some influential persons were succeeded in declaring the value of fixed Import Trade Prices (ITP) as null and void, which results increase in smuggling.
