AMSTERDAM: Dutch central bank chief Klaas Knot was one of two people who voted against the European central bank’s new package of measures to boost the eurozone economy, according to the Financial Times.
The paper bases its claim on confidential sources and says Knot and Sabine Lautenschlager, the German member of the governing council, were the only two members of the 21-strong board to reject the proposals.
The measures to stimulate the eurozone economy include incentives to banks to increase lending and further interest rate cuts. Dutch junior finance minister Erik Wiebes told the Volkskrant he could not comment on the claims directly.
‘I am not supposed to comment on the contents but is it enough if I look angry?’ the paper quotes him as saying. ‘We have to ask ourselves if it will work and what the impact will be on our savings and our pensions.’
