Customs Court sends alleged currency smuggler on 7 days remand

KARACHI: Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Monday handed over a suspect to customs on seven-day physical remand over his alleged attempt to smuggle 225,700 UAE Dirham.

Model Customs collectorate Preventive officials produced a suspect namely as Rasool Baksh and requested the court to grant them the remand of the accused.

According to customs authorities, credible information was received through deputy collector of Karachi airport that an attempt would likely to be made to smuggle foreign currency. The staff arrested the passenger who was trying to smuggle foreign currency. The authorities claimed to have recovered 225,700 UAE Dirham from accused person.

Customs authorities stated that FIR was lodged on the violations of section 2 (s) of the Customs Act, 1969, punishable under clauses (8) of section 156 (|) ibid.
