RIYADH: Saudi Arabia saw softwood lumber imports increase 24 percent between 2014 and 2015, Woodstat, a statistics firm that tracks changes in the forestry and lumber industries around the world, recently reported.

Organizers of the upcoming 11th Dubai WoodShow 2016, the Middle East’s biggest trade fair for wood products, attribute the rise to the increase in the demand for wood household furniture and construction.

An international report from Euromonitor estimates that wood production revenue will grow another 64 percent by 2018 and attributed the rise to the increasing demand for construction and furniture in Saudi Arabia. “This increase indicates a strong demand in the Saudi construction sector as well as the household and offices furniture,” Dawood Al Shezawi, CEO of Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, the organizers of the Dubai WoodShow, said.

“The domestic demand for wood and wood products registered strong growth to cross $2.9 billion). We are gearing up to see major deals at the next edition of Dubai WoodShow from the Saudi exhibitors and we also anticipate a huge turnout of KSA trade visitors.” This year’s Dubai WoodShow is scheduled for April 4 through 6.
