FBR bans sale of vehicles owned by tax defaulters

SIALKOT: The Inland Revenue (IR) Enforcement Collection Unit of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has barred over 5,000 citizens from selling their vehicles due to non-payment of taxes.

The FBR issued letters to all provincial secretaries and Excise and Taxation Department director generals with a list of tax defaulters. The official said that department took action against the defaulters following direction of FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan.

In the list, the FBR has provided details of the accused persons, including their names, addresses and national identity card numbers as well as outstanding dues against them. The board has directed the officials to bar them from selling their vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Excise and Taxation Department in all provinces has alerted the Motor Registration Authority to stop the sale of defaulter vehicles. Sources said that all staff of the Motor Registration Authority has been authorised to impound the vehicles, besides directing them to release the impounded vehicles after the clearance of taxes.
