LAHORE: The Pakistan Customs has sent back 27 trucks of garlic to India after finding that the commodity was contaminated and dangerous for human health.
The Wagah Land Freight Unit (LFU) of the Pakistan Customs intercepted 32 trucks of garlic, which was imported despite a ban.
It is learnt that some importers, after getting approval from private laboratories, started importing Indian garlic. Up to now they imported 32 trucks of garlic, which were stopped on the border for checking.
The Plant Protection Department, while examining the garlic, found fungus and dangerous chemicals for human health on it and suspended its import and also directed to send back the trucks to the India or dump all loaded garlic as it is not good for human health.
Meanwhile, Indian department concerned said that any consignment will not be cleared without confirming the quality of the products.
