Suraj Vaidya becomes new head of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry

ISLAMABAD: In an exhilarating ceremony in Kathmandu, Suraj Vaidya, was appointed as the president of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) for two years from 2016-17.

An old hand at the SAARC CCCI, Suraj Vaidya, has formerly been appointed the chairman of the SAARC Tourism Council, during which he worked for the promotion of tourism in South Asia.

Prior to this highly prestigious appointment, Suraj Vaidya steered SAARC CCI as the acting president in 2015. In a symbolic gesture, he accepted the SAARC CCI Presidential PIN from former president Vikramjit Singh Sahney. This signifies that the mantel has passed from one country to the other. Present at the presidential ceremony were the Prime Minister of Nepal, K.P. Sharma Oli and the Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamal Thapa. Both the leaders expressed their confidence and satisfaction at the taking over of new responsibilities of Suraj Vaidya and his team. Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal expressed confidence that private sector of South Asia under the leadership of new president will achieve new milestone and expected more dynamicity in SAARC CCI as an important organization.
